Friday Folk, St Albans

Friday Folk logo

"Friday Folk" is a social dance club which meets at The Church Hall, Marlborough Road, St Albans, AL1 3XG, UK, on most Friday evenings from 7:45 - 10:00 pm. If you've ever been to a barn dance or a ceilidh, you'll know the sort of thing we do. We dance for our own enjoyment - sometimes to live music, sometimes to recordings.

Normally we do English or American dances, but we also do other national or specialised styles - sometimes for whole evenings, as our programme shows. We aim to keep the atmosphere informal, friendly and sociable, and many of us go to a local pub afterwards. We also have occasional non-dancing social events such as walks and theatre trips, as requested by members.

What's On

Our Programme. The current Friday Folk programme is here.

Friday Folk is Forty. This year Friday Folk celebrates its 40th anniversary. We are holding two special events on 18 and 19 October 2019 to mark the occasion - a Friday Anniversary Club Night and a Saturday dance. Both will include dancing and refreshments. We extend a special invitation for all former members of the club to come and join us for these events.
  • Friday 18 October 2019 - 40th Anniversary Club Night with Mike Bennett and the Friday Folk Band from 7:45pm to 10:30pm at Marlborough Road.

Give us a try!

New members are always welcome, especially beginners. There's no need to book. Just turn up - on your own or with a partner - and enjoy yourself. We have a caller to explain the  dances, so you can join in straight away. After each dance, people normally change partners. There is usually a good balance between men and women. See a slideshow of our activities here.

Most Friday sessions cost just 4 on the night. Special events are sometimes more as noted in the programme. There is easy parking in nearby streets and car parks. Map here.

Three Counties Radio

Bob and Katherine took part in an interview with Nana Akua on 22 August 2019. Listen to the clip here.

Several members took part in an outside broadcast on 5 July 2013. You can hear the recording here.
